This is dehesa country: open holm-oak pasture running up into the Sierra Norte. The oaks give the birds cover to break from and the slopes give them height, which is a combination that produces testing drives without heavy staging.
Seville is the nearest city and airport, and it is one of the strongest arguments for shooting Andalucía rather than central Spain. The city, and the sherry bodegas within reach of it, make the non-shooting half of the trip worth planning properly.

What is included in a Los Melonares package?
Full board on the estate, all wines, spirits, beers and soft drinks, return transfers from Seville, ammunition, the Spanish gun and hunting licences, a loader for every gun, and transport between drives. Birds over the agreed bag are counted individually, so each gun pays only for the birds he or she has shot.
How do I get to Los Melonares?
Fly into Seville. Return transfers from Seville airport are included in the package. Estate transport meets your flight, and the transfer is part of the package.
When is the season at Los Melonares, and what is the ground like?
1 October to 31 March. Los Melonares is a core finca of about 2,500 hectares within a larger managed ground at Castilblanco de los Arroyos, Sevilla, run for driven red-legged partridge, with wild boar and red deer also taken on the estate. A day is four or five drives, with tapas after the second drive and lunch at the end, and a loader looking after each gun throughout.
