Partridge Shooting at Los Melonares, Sevilla

Andalucía rather than the central plains. Los Melonares sits in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla — around 2,500 hectares of core ground, with the wider managed shooting larger again. Partridge is the principal bird-shooting offer here, and wild boar and red deer are taken on the same estate.

This is dehesa country: open holm-oak pasture running up into the Sierra Norte. The oaks give the birds cover to break from and the slopes give them height, which is a combination that produces testing drives without heavy staging.

Seville is the nearest city and airport, and it is one of the strongest arguments for shooting Andalucía rather than central Spain. The city, and the sherry bodegas within reach of it, make the non-shooting half of the trip worth planning properly.

How a Spanish Driven Day Runs

Driven Partridge shoots in Spain differ slightly from the UK in the manner that the day is conducted. A typical day consists of 4 or 5 drives and as the days are still quite long the day can operate in a relaxed but professional manner. Tapas will be taken after 2 drives (and after drive 4 on a 5 drive day) Lunch will be at the days end so there is no rush at all. The birds are fast and furious and test even the best guns. The weather is normally good so all can be Al-Fresco. You are always supplied with a loader or “stuffer” who carries all you gear and generally looks after you, this all combines to give you an overall most enjoyable experience.
