Roe Deer Stalking

Trophy bucks are normally found in good quality arable land with a mixture of hard and soft wood forest with smaller headed bucks being in the hilly poorer quality land. Either in the early morning with dawn breaking and the dew still on the grass – or in an evening outing where fading light is your greatest enemy, a Roe stalk is your opportunity to see the day from a new perspective, as you hunt this most elusive and beautiful of Deer.

For the ground, seasons and what a stalking outing involves, see roe deer stalking in Scotland.

A note on Scotland. Scotland removed the statutory close season for male deer on 21 October 2023, so the Scottish stag and buck dates above are the traditional season most estates still work to, not a legal restriction. Scottish close seasons for hinds and does remain in law. The England dates are statutory, set by Schedule 1 of the Deer Act 1991. Spanish seasons are set by each autonomous community in an annual orden de vedas, not nationally, which is why Spain appears above by region: Andalucía under the Resolución of 1 June 2026 (BOJA 108, 8 June 2026) and Castilla-La Mancha under Orden 83/2026 of 9 June 2026. Spanish roe is stalked, not driven — see roe deer stalking in Spain.
