Partridge Shooting at El Crespo, Ciudad Real

Fuenllana, in Ciudad Real, with more than ten thousand hectares of managed ground behind it. Everything the estate currently does is built around red-legged partridge, and at that size the focus shows in how a whole season is run rather than in any single day of it.

Ten thousand hectares is enough to rotate drives across a full season without ever returning to tired ground. On partridge, that discipline is the difference between a good estate and a great one — birds that have not been disturbed fly differently.

Fuenllana sits in the Campo de Montiel, a high plateau of cereal, olive and holm oak. The slopes are long rather than steep, so drives tend to be wide, with birds arriving in numbers across a broad front.

The focus on a single quarry means the calendar is built around the partridge season rather than fitted between other sport.

The Value of our Shooting Package — El Crespo

What a fully inclusive package covers here — full board on the estate in the staffed hacienda, all wines, spirits and soft drinks, return transfers from Madrid-Barajas, and ammunition, Spanish gun and hunting licences — with the point that overage is counted per gun, so each gun pays only for the birds it has shot.

How a Spanish Driven Day Runs

Driven Partridge shoots in Spain differ slightly from the UK in the manner that the day is conducted. A typical day consists of 4 or 5 drives and as the days are still quite long the day can operate in a relaxed but professional manner. Tapas will be taken after 2 drives (and after drive 4 on a 5 drive day) Lunch will be at the days end so there is no rush at all. The birds are fast and furious and test even the best guns. The weather is normally good so all can be Al-Fresco. You are always supplied with a loader or “stuffer” who carries all you gear and generally looks after you, this all combines to give you an overall most enjoyable experience.
