Mallorcan partridge shooting is a different proposition from the La Mancha plains. The ground is steep, terraced and covered in pine and maquis, so birds come out of cover fast, at close range, and change line as they cross. Walked-up days here are genuinely sporting rather than a consolation.
The island's compactness is part of the appeal: Palma airport is close, the drive to the ground is short, and a shooting programme sits easily inside a long weekend.
The Balearic boc is endemic to Mallorca and cannot be taken anywhere else. For guns who want a bird programme with something genuinely unusual attached, this is the combination.

How do I get to Las Barracas?
Fly into Palma de Mallorca. Palma has direct flights from most UK airports and from the US east coast via Madrid or London. Estate transport meets your flight, and the transfer is part of the package.
When is the season at Las Barracas, and what is the ground like?
1 October to 31 March. Las Barracas is about 1,000 hectares at Calvià, Mallorca, run for driven and walked-up partridge, plus the Balearic boc, the Mallorcan wild goat. A day is four or five drives, with tapas after the second drive and lunch at the end, and a loader looking after each gun throughout.
