We don’t usually contact HRW clients regarding policy matters, but a current proposal affecting firearms licensing has the potential to impact the entire shooting community and deserves your attention. The Government is considering a move to combine Section 2 (shotgun) licensing with Section 1 (firearm) licensing . If introduced, this would mean shotgun owners being subject to the same application process as rifle owners — a substantial change that would affect over 500,000 lawful shotgun certificate holders nationwide and the industry as a whole. For this reason, we are encouraging everyone who values shooting sports and countryside traditions to support the petition opposing this proposal. BASC has commented: “Reaching 100,000 signatures could prompt a debate in Parliament, requiring the responsible minister to answer publicly. This is where genuine scrutiny begins and where damaging proposals can be challenged.” Sign the petition here We would also ask you to share this with friends and family.
